SCIN 435 - WRITING ABOUT SCIENCE FOR PUBLIC MEDIA
Science Writing for Public Media is designed not only as a capstone course for Integrated Science Studies students who have substantially completed their upper level concentrations, but also serves the curricular interests of other students as well. The course is a practicum in which participants will use a variety of means to make clear and understandable to an informed citizenry complex contemporary issues in science and technology and public policies. These will include short oral expositions, news briefs, weekly bulletins, short articles, and book reviews. Students will become familiar with the oportunities for writing about science, the obstacles which shape that writing, and the techniques commonly accepted among science writers and journalists as being effective in writing about science.
